I am following the Advanced Welsh Baccalaureate and am studying the following subjects in my Options:
A2 Law
A2 Sociology
A2 Psychology
I am developing all the wider Key Skills - Working with Others, Problem Solving, Improving Own Learning and Performance - through the Welsh Bac Advanced Diploma. I am gaining Communication, Application of Number, IT through my A level options and weekly key skills workshops.
Last year, as an AS student, I completed WEW and PSE and enjoyed the social and political elements in particular, which inspired other Bac students and myself to choose a community project which linked with Amnesty International's Control Arms Campaign. I am currently gaining evidence for wider keys skills through working with others on this project which includes making a video to raise awareness of the campaign and also presenting to others in my college, and, also, to local schools and churches. I am also improving my own learning through the video production and I enjoy the challenges and problems this project brings. In March I will go to the Millennium stadium and give a presentation on this community project to an audience, which will include other students from Wales who have been involved in Dysg sponsored projects.
My individual investigation is into the acceptance of domestic violence in Wales and other European countries, as this issue intrigued me when we had visiting speakers from the police and the local women's refuge, in WEW sessions, last year.
I am using my part time work as my work experience, as I work, part time, in Tesco, as a customer assistant.
I have found that the Bac has given me opportunities to meet other students with whom I would not normally work and I really like this variety. I find the second year of the Bac offers me a chance to develop new skills and I really enjoy managing a project where I have to use my initiative and this increases my confidence.
I am hoping to be able to go to university to study law and criminology and enter the police force as a graduate.
