I am following the Advanced Welsh Baccalaureate and am studying the following subjects in my Options:
AS Law
A2 Sociology
A2 English Language
I am developing all the wider key Key Skills -, Working with Others, Problem Solving, Improving Own Learning and Performance - through the Welsh Bac Advanced Diploma. I am gaining Communication, Application of Number, IT, through my A level options and weekly key skills workshops.
I am gaining community participation by working with other Bac students, on a project which promotes Amnesty International's Campaign to control arms. I really enjoyed the Social and Political aspects of WEW in my first year and I liked the way we got involved with local MPs and AMs as it gave me a chance to think more seriously about current affairs in a more informed way. I particularly enjoyed meeting Jane Davidson and David Milliband.
My individual investigation is into the rising trends in gun crime in UK and comparing it to European trends.
I am using my part time job in McDonald's as my work experience. I particularly liked the Enterprise week we undertook last year, in the dismal month of January, as it motivated and inspired me to clarify my goals and plan how to achieve them, while offering me a totally different experience for a week.
My tutors guide me through the different components of the Bac and I feel that being a Bac student gives me an edge. When I decided not to progress to A2 in Psychology, I knew the Bac would enhance my UCAS application, not just with points, but with the extra experience I have gained by taking the Bac as I hope to study Business Law at University . Although I live in England, studying at a Welsh college and taking the Welsh Bac has encouraged me to apply to study in Wales for my degree.
