I am following the Intermediate Welsh Baccalaureate and am studying the following subjects in my Options:
ICT - Advanced Double Award (VCE)
Computing - A2
Business Studies - A2
I am developing all six of the Key Skills - Communication, Application of Number, IT, Working with Others, Problem Solving, Improving Own Learning and Performance - through the Welsh Bac Intermediate Diploma.
As part of developing the key skills of Working with Others and Problem Solving I have been doing outdoor activities such as rock climbing and crossing a river. I have really enjoyed the opportunity to improve my key skills. As a group we had to formulate ideas to cross the river safely. We were given safety equipment, ropes and harness and had to get each member of our team across safely.
For my individual investigation I looked at the future of Welsh Rugby in Europe as compared to that of Ireland. I analysed the two teams' recent performances and the internal structures of provincial rugby in the two countries and then charted potential progress in the forthcoming six nations.
For my work placement I went to AB connectors in Abercynon and had to complete many varied tasks which were set for me by my assessors. These tasks included deleting and installing new software, updating some of the existing software and setting up many new items of hardware on the firm's network. As this is an industry that I am keen to work in when I complete my education, I found this an invaluable experience and I also learned a great deal about working with others as part of a team.
I find the guidance from my tutors is very helpful, particularly with certain subjects and writing essays.
I am hoping to progress to do the Advanced Diploma.
